The Enemy
M. Fennell
9/17/94
I have met the enemy
He is infinitely larger than you or me
I speak not of Germans or Japanese
But of 20th Century bureaucracies
Sure, Orwell knew of this long before
Yet I believed I saw a door
For if the people could topple the Communist store
Then the people could conquer 1984
Following footsteps of Jefferson and Thoreau
Whenever I could, I would strike a great blow
But if the enemy was hurt, youd never know
Meanwhile this monster continued to grow
But to gradually give in and quietly comply
To acquiesce and close our eyes
To say that the layman shouldnt try
Thats when freedom truly dies
Comply we will - temporarily
Well rise to our site of authority
Et tu Brute the enemys cry will be
When we finally do conquer bureaucracy
